UB MATH SCIENCE

Imperial Valley Community College administers three programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Branch of TRIO programs.

Students in the Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) will participate in fun and engaging activities that will explore STEM, computers, science and higher education. These after-school activities will explore higher education options that can be very rewarding and that are in high demand in today's labor market. The online or virtual activities will provide an opportunity for students to also meet local and out of county professionals from the STEM career industry. The afterschool activities and Saturday events will help improve the student's skills in the area of Math and Science.

The purpose of the UBMS program is to generate the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school. UBMS students explore a variety of high demand career pathways in the field of science, math, and STEM. Students receive instruction and tutoring in science, literature, composition, mathematics, study skills, and other subjects necessary for success in education beyond high school. Services and activities are scheduled after school, on Saturdays, and during the Virtual Summer Bridge and Virtual Summer Academy. Students receive school and college credits for completing the summer classes.

The philosophy of the UBMS program is that by helping students with their school assignments, students will be able to achieve their goals of achieving a degree in math or science. Students will also receive career mentoring and instruction from local or out of county professionals that can provide the guidance while in high school. Upward Bound is also an early intervention project which effectively reaches out to students in the grades nine through twelve that have "college potential" and an interest in careers in math, science or STEM.

Here, current students will be able to keep in contact with each other as well as receive information on upcoming events and important information. Events will cover various related topics such as engineering, computer technology, medical science, cosmology, robotics, STEM, and much more. Careers in these fields have a high demand labor market that can lead to higher paying jobs as an adult. Prospective Students and Parents will be able to access recruitment information as well as submit a pre-application on-line. Please click on Program Information to continue.
